Joseph Patrick Hoyer, Jr., age 82, a resident of Riviera Beach for 58 years, died on June 10, 2013 at his home after battling cancer for one year.
He was born on July 1, 1930, in Valley Falls, RI, to the late Frances and Joseph P. Hoyer, Sr. From 1949 to 1957 he served our country in both the United States Army and in the US Marine Corps. He went on to work for the Kennecott Company, and later in the security department at St. Agnes Hospital. He enjoyed baseball and football, his cigars, and his grandchildren.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his son Robert S. Hoyer; two brothers: John and James Hoyer; and two sisters: Anna Cooney and Frances Hoyer.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years: Pearl Hoyer (nee Miller); four sons: Brian P. Hoyer, Stephen Hoyer and his wife Lynn, Thomas Hoyer, all of Riviera Beach, and Joseph Hoyer and his wife Emma, of Linthicum; four daughters: Katherine Raynor and her husband Wade, of Carvel Beach, Linda Kirkpatrick and her husband Jeff, of New Hudson, MI, Anna Engel and her husband Fred, of Pasadena, and Sharon Dillow and her husband Martin, of Pasadena; his brother Vincent Hoyer and sister Mary Ethier, both of Cumberland, RI; 10 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Family invites friends to visit at the Gregory J. Gonce Funeral Home, PA, 169 Riviera Drive, Pasadena, on Sunday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 PM. His funeral service will commence on Monday at 11:30 AM at the funeral home, with interment to follow in Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Crownsville.
