Pat Metallo, age 89, a resident of Pasadena for 40 years, and previously of Dundalk, died on August 2, 2015 after a lengthy illness.
Born on January 8, 1926, in Dundalk, to the late Jenny and Vincent Metallo, he graduated from Dundalk High School before enlisting in the US Army, serving from 1944 until 1952. As a medic, he was attached to the 101st Airborne Division, to be among the first to land behind enemy lines on D-Day. Blinded by the night fog, the glider he was assigned to crashed landed, killing many aboard. He was finally captured by the German army while trying to lend aid to wounded paratroopers, and spent the remainder of World War II as a POW.
Following the Army, Pat worked as a Surgical Tech at Harbor Hospital for 40 years. He was a member of St. Jane Frances Church, the Holy Name Society, the St. Jane Seniors, East Anne Arundel Lions Club, and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed fishing, bowling, bingo, and, as an animal lover, spoiling his pets.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 33 years: Charlotte L. Metallo; his second wife Ruth Goodman; and his three brothers: Lawrence, Nicola, and Vincent Metallo.
Pat is survived by his loving daughter Charmaine Metallo, as well as nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The family invites friends to visit at the Gregory J. Gonce Funeral Home, PA, 169 Riviera Drive, Pasadena, on Wednesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 PM. His funeral service will begin at 11 AM on Thursday at the funeral home. Those who wish may contribute to the Best Friends Animals Society in his name. Feel free to express your condolences below as well.
