Nancy Mae Richardson, 75, of Terre Haute and formerly of Clinton, passed away Friday, July 12, 2019 at Signature Healthcare of Terre Haute.
Nancy was born July 10, 1944 in Arlington Heights, IL to Edward and Mae Mikula.  While in high school Nancy met her soulmate, Thorton “Thorny” Richardson, and later married him on Sept. 26, 1964 in downtown Chicago, IL.  Nancy and Thorton’s dream came true on Dec. 27, 1977 when she gave birth to their daughter, Nicole Mae Richardson.
Nancy was an adventurous soul.  In her younger years she enjoyed boating and camping.  As she got older, she took on the adventures of horse ownership and had a cart built so she could go riding.  She tried snorkeling on a special 40th wedding anniversary trip in Hawaii.
Over the years Nancy had a few professions.  She was a daycare provider, a customer service rep at CBS (she was the first person to be hired with a handicap), and as a receptionist for Dr. Albrecht.  Nancy enjoyed working and interacting with people at her jobs, but her favorite roles in life were being a wife to Thorny and a Mom to Nicole.
Nancy was a member of the First Christian Church in Clinton, and when she was unable to get out to attend, the ladies of the church would come to Nancy’s home for bible study.  Nancy was also a member of the Rosedale Homemakers of Parke County and the Red Hat Ladies of Clinton.
Nancy was always known to have a positive attitude and a smile on her face.  Everyone that met Nancy instantly had a new friend.  She was like a celebrity at Signature Healthcare and everyone who knew her enjoyed visiting with her.  Nancy was loved by everyone that met her and she will be deeply missed.
Nancy’s Dad, Edward Mikula, worked for the Methodist Publishing Company. He  was a working artist and was asked to create a symbol to unite the Methodist Church and the United Bretheren Church in 1977.   His artwork was accepted and we now see it as the Cross and the Flame for the Methodist Church.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Mae; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Burnace and Sadie Richardson; brother-in-law, David Jones; her husband Thorny on Oct. 16, 2016; and her daughter Nicole on July 18, 2018.

She is survived by her “adopted” daughter, Libby (Jeff) Reel of Paris, IL; “adopted” grandchildren, Hayden, Addyson, and Kelsey Reel all of Paris; sister Diane Mikula of London, England; sisters-in-law, Jo-Ann Richardson Jones of Lyford and Carolyn Lou Richardson of Wauconda, IL; Brothers-in-law Nick (Gail) Richardson of North Richland, TX, Paul (Nancy) Richardson of Phoneix, Ariz; Nieces Nina Gilbert of London, England, Teresa (Doug) Barr of Brazil, IN; JoAnn B. Jones of Sullivan, Shelly (Russ) Bartunak of Grapevine, TX, Becky (Jim) Helbling of Chaska, MN and Paula Kay Richardson; nephews  Nicholas (Heidi)Richardson and children of Keller, TX;  Michael Richardson and children, and Danny Richardson and children; great-nieces and nephews, Summer Jo (Matthew) Koenig and their daughters, Chelsea, Mattason, Sarah, Colbi, and Sophia, William (Amanda) Wheeler and their daughters Laylah and Abigayle, Colleen (William) Osborne and their daughters Haddie and Emersyn, Megan (Brian) Rodriguiz and their children Madelyn, MyLea, Mattox, Jackson, Millissa,  Brian Jr,  and Aundrea;   Special “nephews” Daniel and David Robinson; best friend RoseAnn (Paul) Akers and their children Ryan (Tami);  Heather (James) ;  and Matthew (Chelsea) who considered Nancy and Thorny as their Aunt and Uncle; and the staff and residents at Signature Healthcare of Terre Haute.
Visitation will be Wednesday, July 17, 2019 from 10 am to noon at Frist Funeral Home with the funeral service to follow at 12 noon.  Rev. Larry Kelsheimer will officiate.  Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.

Nancy was the most positive person I think I ever met. For all her ups and downs she always had something good to say about everything. She never met a stranger and was an asset to Dr Albright's office. The patients loved her. I will miss our nursing home visits. Rest in peace Nancy.
