Martha Lou Sterling, an 89 year old Trenton, MO resident, passed away at 10:53, a.m., Sunday, February 1, 2015 at Wright Memorial Hospital.

Memorial services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 21, 2015 at Wesley United Methodist Church in Trenton, with Rev. Barry Boulware officiating.  A visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until service time.  A private inurnment will be held at 2:30 pm at Oakwood Cemetery in Milan the same day.   Memorial donations are suggested to either the Wesley United Methodist Church or the Galt Lion’s Club and left with or mailed to the Whitaker-Eads Funeral Home.

Martha Lou Sterling was born January 9, 1926 in Sullivan County to Nelson and Thelma (Pickens) Baker.  She graduated from the Milan High School and received her teaching certificate from Northwest Missouri State College in Maryville.  Martha taught school before uniting in marriage with Quinten Sterling on July 17, 1946 by Rev. Walker in Princeton, MO.  Martha and Quinten farmed for 18 years in the Green Hills and Galt area and then in 1964 they purchased their farm near Galt.  Besides being a farm wife, Martha became well known in the community as an exceptional seamstress.  After retiring from the farm and moving to Trenton in 1998, she enjoyed playing bridge, reading, and working in her downsized garden.

Surviving relatives include her son Gordon Sterling and his wife Jenny of Sparks, NV, her daughter Caroll Schreiber and her husband Thomas of Lansing, IA and her sisters Marjorie Troy of Parsons, KS and Mary Oothout of Des Moines IA, three grandchildren, four step grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and eight step great grandchildren.

Those preceding her in death include her parents, husband, and five siblings; Anna Belle Baugher, Amil Baker, Catherine Ralls, Dick Baker, and Eddie Baker.
