Wendell Guess, an 82 year old resident of Trenton, MO passed away Tuesday evening, January 28, 2014 at Wright Memorial Hospital in Trenton.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 31, 2014 at Wesley United Methodist Church in Trenton.  Burial will in Resthaven Memorial Gardens of Trenton.  A visitation is scheduled from 6 until 8 Thursday at the church.  Open visitation will be from noon until 4 Thursday at Whitaker Eads Funeral Home in Trenton.  Memorial donations are suggested to the North 65 Senior Center and may be left with the funeral home.
George Wendell Guess was born April 19, 1931 in Albany, MO to Richard Wayne and Doris (Madden) Guess.  He graduated from Albany High School and was drafted into the United States Marine Corps where he served during the Korean War.  After returning from the war, he received a Bachelor of Science degree from Maryville College.  On August 20, 1955 he was united in marriage to Margaret Ann Young; she preceded him in death in 1982.  For 7 years Wendell worked as a teacher for the Trenton school district before starting Guess Basement Construction which he operated for 25 years.  After selling his basement business, Wendell ran the Trenton Sand Company until retiring in 1994.  On December 29, 1984 Wendell was remarried to Sandra Kay (Hughes) Burson.  After retirement Wendell spent much of his time as a wood craftsman.
Mr. Guess is survived by his wife, Kay of Trenton, MO; 2 daughters, Ellen Dean and her husband Tom of Kansas City, MO and Lou Anne Templeton of Virginia Beach, VA;  3 step children Scott Burson and his wife Margaret of Kansas City, MO, Elisa Burson and her close friend Sharon of Keller, TX, and Todd Burson and his wife Rene´ of Burleson TX,  5 brothers, Jim Guess of Albany, MO, Maurice Guess and his wife Nell of Albany, MO, Glee Guess and his wife Donna of Albany, MO, Bill Guess of Phoenix, AZ and Vince Guess and his wife Sandy of Scottsdale, AZ, a sister, Joyce Newman of Albany, MO, 11 grandchildren; Ryan, Meghan, Taylor, Jessica, Shawna, Aaron, Ashley, Zachary, Blake, Braden and Riley, and a great-granddaughter Ryleigh.
Those preceding him in death include his parents, Wife Margaret Ann, and brothers Max and Larry Guess.

So many remember your Wendell Guess as one of their best and favorite teachers, others knew him from his other work and civic life in Grundy County. He also made every group he was in better and he made most men who knew him want to be a better man. We have all lost a treasure and someone who was a blessing in our lives. Our thoughts and prayers are with Kay, Ellen, Lou Anne and the whole family.
