Bob Skinner, a 92 year old Trenton, MO resident passed away at 10:21 p.m. on Thursday, July 18, 2013 at the Wright Memorial Hospital of Trenton.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 22, 2013 at Resthaven Mortuary of Trenton, cremation will follow. A scheduled visitation will be held one hour prior to service time. Rev. Denny Chesnut will officiate.
Mr. Skinner was born on May 23, 1921 in Trenton, MO the son of Charles and Thelma (Flesher) Skinner. He graduated from Trenton High School and Trenton Junior College, in 1940 he played on the Trenton Junior College Basketball team that were “undisputed champions of the Missouri Junior College Conference”. He played 3 years with Ban Johnson Baseball League for the Trenton Red Birds and in 1942 he tried out for the Kansas City Blues Minor League baseball team. He served as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII. He owned and operated Gardner-Skinner Appliance Store until retiring in 1981. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending winter months in Texas. He was a member of the American Legion Post #31, served on the board of the Senior Center, delivered meals for over 25 years with R.S.V.P., and was a member of the First Baptist Church, where he was just recently honored with an 80 year membership.
Mr. Skinner is survived by his wife, Wilma Skinner of the home in Trenton, MO; a daughter, Sara Campbell and her husband, Gary of Trenton, MO; a son, Richard Skinner and his wife, Wanda of Sumner, MO; 6 grandchildren, Chad Skinner and his wife, Jackie of Kirksville, MO, Adam Skinner and his wife, Elizabeth of Marceline, MO, Aaron Skinner and his wife, Jessica of Marceline, MO, Jon Skinner and his wife, Andrea of Lakewood, CO, Alisa Glover and her husband, John of Marietta, GA, and Amanda Dawe and her husband, Matt of Simpsonville, SC; 13 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Charlene Vance of Lenexa, KS and Marge Wingerd of Phoenix, AZ; a sister in law, Barbara Skinner of St. Joseph, MO; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Willard Skinner; and an infant sister.
The family has suggested in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to North 65 Senior Center, they can be left at or mailed to Resthaven Mortuary, P.O. Box 587, Trenton, MO 64683.
