William Taylor Schapaugh, 80, Trenton passed away at home on Wednesday, February 6, 2013.

William (Bill) was born to Earl and Frances (Martin) on March 16, 1932 in Jamesport.  On June 15, 1952 he was united in marriage to Marjorie Doughty in Jamesport.

He was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church, where a celebration of life service will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, February 9, 2013 in Trenton. Following the service, burial will take place at the Jamesport Masonic Cemetery. Family visitation will be from 7:00 to 8:00 pm on Friday, February 8 at the Whitaker-Eads Downtown Chapel located at 813 Custer, Trenton.

After graduating from Jamesport High School, Bill served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954. He continued his education at the Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago, as well as Iowa State University, Ames, where he earned a B.S. degree in Industrial Administration and Marketing in 1959.

Bill's early work experience was with Reed's Seeds, Inc., in Jamesport, as a seed buyer and salesman, and with the Iowa State University Botany Department and Seed Lab as a seed analyst and assistant for the seed and weed courses. Later he joined Asgrow Seed Company, working in various positions related to sales and marketing and eventually serving as President of the company.  Another highlight of his career included serving a term as President of the American Seed Trade Association in 1980's.

Bill and Marge retired to the Jamesport/Trenton area in 1991. In retirement, they enjoyed traveling in their RV, fishing in Lake Taneycomo, and caring for the family farm near Jamesport. Among Bill's cherished memories were meal times with family, boating and fishing with grandsons, learning how to sail, golfing, tending to his beloved dog Misty, driving his blue Ford tractor, solving complex Sudoku puzzles, and researching family history.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Marge; sons, William, Jr. (Debra) of Manhattan, KS; Randy (Pat) of Battle Creek, MI; grandsons, Daniel (Danielle) Schapaugh, Adam (Jami) Schapaugh; step-grandson, Rob Rumsey; and great-granddaughter, Addison Schapaugh. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters, Anna Lee Hampton and Mary Louise Schapaugh, and his great-grandson Oliver Schapaugh.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Wesley United Methodist Church, or to the charity of your choice in memory of Bill Schapaugh.
