Joseph Franklin Whitney, a 78 year old lifelong resident of Grundy County, MO passed away at 9:20a.m., Friday, December 07, 2012 at his residence where he had been under hospice care.

Funeral arrangements are scheduled for 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, December 11, 2012 at Resthaven Mortuary.  Burial will be in the Resthaven Memorial Gardens of Trenton.  A visitation is scheduled from 7 until 8 at the funeral home.  Open visitation will begin at noon Sunday.  Memorial donations may be made to American Cancer Society, the Alzheimer’s Association or Hospice and left or mailed to the funeral home.

Joseph Whitney was born January 7, 1934 in Farmersville, MO, the son of Kenneth Harold and Frances Mae Clingingsmith Whitney.  He graduated from Trenton High School Joseph served as a sergeant in the United States Army, from 1953 until 1957, which was during the Korean War.  On October 5, 1961 he was united in marriage to Zella Huffstutter in Kansas City, MO.  He was a member of the Trenton Church of the Nazarene where he served on the board several times and was active in various other roles.  For 27 years he owned and operated Whitney Welding in Trenton.

Surviving relatives include his wife Zella of the home, sons Franklin D Whitney and his wife Stephanie and Joseph A Whitney all of Trenton, a daughter Lori A. Shuler and her husband Danny of Trenton, Sisters Mary Louise Eason and her husband R.L. of GA, Betty Marie Veach and her husband Ben of IN, Judith Ann Barritt of Mercer, MO, Ramona Sue Robertson and her husband Roy of Faucett, MO, sister-in-laws Ruth Whitney of McFall, MO, Judy Klinginsmith and her husband Dr. George of Chillicothe, and Loree Huffstutter of Trenton, a brother-in-law Eldon Cooksey of Trenton, grandchildren; Trevor, Zach and fiancée Courtney, Austin, JaNea, Jordan and Ronna, Jadan, Jaren Whitney, Anna and Adam George, Jeremy and Sheynee Shuler, Sara Shuler and Dakota, three great grandchildren Alli and Addison George and Benjamin Shuler and several wonderful nieces, nephews and many friends.

Those preceding him in death include his parents a son Kenneth D. Whitney, brothers Harold L. and Huett Donald Whitney and a brother-in-law Paul Barritt.
