Shirley Whitt, an 89 year old Trenton resident, passed away at 9:35 a.m. on Sunday, November 13, 2011 at the Sunnyview Nursing Home.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November17, 2011 at the Tenth Street Baptist Church of Trenton. A scheduled visitation will be held one hour prior to service time. Open visitation will begin after 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday at Resthaven Mortuary of Trenton. Burial will be in the Spickard Masonic Cemetery.
Mrs. Whitt was born on September 14, 1922 in Spickard, MO the daughter of Charles and Lula Brown Gentry, being the youngest of 9 children. She was married to Max Ogle on October 7, 1942 in Chillicothe, MO, after Max’s discharge from the Army Air Corps during WWII, they lived in Ft. Myers, FL for 3 years before before moving to Spickard where they farmed more than 40 years; Max preceded her in death on February 5, 1985. She was later married to Harley Whitt on February 14, 1989 in Trenton; he preceded her in death on June 16, 2003. She enjoyed gardening, going to auctions, and shopping with her daughters. She was a member of the Tenth Street Baptist Church.
She is survived by 2 daughters, Terri Reid and her husband, David of Trenton, MO and Tana Ratliff and her husband, Gail of Greenwood, MO; 5 grandchildren; 1 step grandson; 10 great grandchildren; and 9 step great grandchildren; 3 step daughters, Linda Ray, Shirley Smith, Penny Skinner all of Jacksonville, FL; and a sister in law, Ruth Campbell of Trenton, MO.
In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Tony Max Ogle; 5 brothers, and 3 sisters.
The family has suggested memorial contributions be made to the Tenth Street Baptist Church, they can be left at or mailed to Resthaven Mortuary, P.O. Box 587, Trenton, MO 64683.
