Jay Edward Ratliff, 95, of Trenton, Missouri, passed away at 8:15 AM on February 16, 2018, at the North Care Hospice House in North Kansas City, Missouri. Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 PM on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at 10TH Street Baptist Church in Trenton. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens North of Trenton. A scheduled visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 PM on Monday, February 19, 2018 at Resthaven Mortuary north of Trenton. Open visitation will begin 1:00 PM Monday at Resthaven. Memorials and contributions are suggested to North Kansas City Hospice Care or North 65 Senior Center and can be left with or mailed to Resthaven Mortuary PO Box 587 Trenton, Missouri 64083.
Jay was born on June 2, 1922 in Grundy County, Missouri (forks of the river area), to William Truman “Bump” Ratliff and Wilma Adella Brown. He was united in marriage to Mary Lee Kennedy on June 26, 1942 in Trenton, Missouri. He joined the United States Army on December 1, 1942 and served until September 17, 1945. He was in the Inf. 80th Div. in Italy during World War II. He worked for Trenton Foods for 33 years before retiring. He loved DANCING and gardening.
Mr. Ratliff is survived by his wife of 75 years, Mary Lee of the home; his children, Ralph Ratliff and wife Kathryn of Chillicothe, MO, Ruby Reich of Trenton, MO, Judy Railsback and husband Bob of Trenton, MO, Rubert Ratliff and wife Kay of Gilman City, MO, Joyce Tredway of Chula, MO, and close family friend, Sue Knapp of Trenton, MO; 14 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; his sister, Willa Fouty of Springdale, AR; and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Ratliff is preceded in death by his parents; son, Steve Ratliff; grandson, Scott Railsback; granddaughter, Lisa Kay Ratliff; 2 infant granddaughters; son-in-law, John Tredway; and his siblings, Lulu Cox, Lloyd Ratliff, Russell Ratliff, Letha LaFollette, Jewel Gott, Clifton Ratliff, Ode Ratliff, Lester Ratliff, Helen Ratliff, Alice Thompson, and Betty Farris.
