Ed Rice, an 86 year old rural Trenton resident passed away Friday, August 5, 2016 at St. Lukes Hospital in Kansas City, MO.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 8, 2016 at the Shelburne Baptist Church. A scheduled family visitation will be held from 4 - 6:00 p.m. on Sunday at Whitaker-Eads Funeral Home in Trenton. Burial will be in the Shelburne Cemetery following military rites.
Mr. Rice was born on April 1, 1930 in Trenton, MO the son of Lyman D. and Bertha (Eckert) Rice. He graduated Trenton High School, Trenton Junior College, and attended Missouri University for one year. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was married to Jesalee Leeper on August 8, 1952 at the Shelburne Baptist Church; she preceded him in death on November 27, 1992. After returning from the Navy he worked for Railway Express in Kansas City. He returned to the Trenton area and had worked at Donaldsons in Chillicothe until retirement, he farmed throughout his working years and in his retirement.
Survivors include a son, Dean Rice and his wife, Cathy of Hickory, MO; a daughter, Jean Ann Eakin and her husband, Doug of Rossville, KS; a brother, John Rice and his wife, Margaret of Trenton, MO; four grandchildren, Justin Rice and his wife, Heidi and their children, Ava and James, Joe Rice and his wife, Brielle and their son, Grant, Matthew Eakin and his children, Avery and Maverick, and Katy Eakin.            
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Charles D. Rice.
