Lee James Hansen, of Roslindale formally of Brighton, passed away peacefully April 19, 2016 at the age of 66 after a long illness. He was the son of the late Clarence (Knute) and Ann Marie (Regan) Hansen of Wellesley. Born in Burlington, Vermont, he grew up in Wellesley and after his marriage lived in Brookline, Brighton, and finally in Roslindale. He studied at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst and did graduate work at the University of Connecticut at Storrs. During one of his educational sojourns in France he met Odile (Reytier) Hansen, his spouse and companion of 37 years. Burdened by illness for much of his life, he worked to support his family in hotels, as a security guard in various locations, and in similar occupations. Throughout his life, his mind was sharp and he eagerly debated political and cultural issues and avidly followed sports. Besides Odile, he leaves behind many fine friends and his cousins Paul and Kathy (Moan) Regan of Readville, Mary Sue (Regan) and Jim Martinelli of Durham, Connecticut, and Peter and Joan (Deutsch) Regan. Throughout his life Lee kept numerous orphaned cats who otherwise would have perished and considered them as part of his family as well.
A memorial service will be held at the Carroll-Thomas Funeral Home on 22 Oak Street in Hyde Park at 11:00AM on Friday April 29, with a visiting hour between 10:00-11:00AM before the service. Followed by a memorial lunch at the Fairmount Grille on Fairmount Avenue in Hyde Park. Burial of Lee’s remains will be held privately at a later date.
