Catherine A. Smith, age 62, of Shipshewana died at 12:23 A.M. Thursday, September 17, 2009 at her home following a battle
with cancer. Catherine had been a homemaker most of her life. She had worked outside her home for two years at
the salvage yard and ceramic store in White Pigeon, Mich., to earn money to accompany one of her brothers on a trip to
Italy. She had a wonderful time on her trip. At one time, she had attendeed the St. Joseph Catholic
Church in White Pigeon, Mich. Catherine enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and was an avid University of Notre
Dame fan. She was born December 30, 1947 in Garrett, IN to James & Rowena "Effie" (Michael)
Hatcher. She married Douglas K. Smith on November 25, 1967 in Logansport, IN. He survives in Shipshewana.
Also surviving are a daughter - Kelly & Jerry Jantzi of Shipshewana, IN. 2 sons - Darin & Robin Smith
of Goshen, IN and Tim Smith of Shipshewana, IN. 3 brothers - James Hatcher of Broad Ripple near Indianapolis - John
& Cindy Hatcher and Joseph & Sandy Hatcher of Olive Brach, Miss. 2 sisters - Mary & Rod Jones
and Betty Fowler of Logansport, IN. 1 grandson - Brody Jantzi of Shipshewana, IN. 1 granddaughter -
Taylor Jantzi of Shipshewana, IN and several nieces and nephews. She was preceeded in death by her parents. Visitation
will be from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Sunday, September 20, 2009 at Carney-Frost Funeral Home, LaGrange, IN. Funeral Services
will be held Monday, September 21, 2009 at 10:00 A.M. at the funeral home with the Rev. Kenneth Weaver officiating.
Burial will be in Sidener Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the LaGrange County 4-H Horse and Pony
Club or the Cancer Services of Northern Indiana, 2925 E. State Blvd., Fort Wayne, IN 46805. Arrangements by Carney-Frost
