Kelly L. Smith

Kelly L. Smith, age 41, of Wolcottville drowned Saturday, June 27, 2009 while swimming at Dallas Lake.  Kelly and her husband, Jeff, had lived in Kimmell for 15 years before moving to Westler Lake five years ago.  She was born on April 11, 1968 in Auburn, Indiana to Roger & Judith (McBride) Ransom.  She married Jeffrey L. Smith on July 23, 1988 at the Sparta United Church of Christ in Kimmell, Indiana.  She had been a Title 1 Reading Teacher for the past two years at Wolcott Mills Elementary School in Wolcottville and Lima Brighton Elementary School in Howe.  She was a 2006 graduate of Indiana University with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education.  She was a member of the South Milford Church of Christ.  Kelly enjoyed boating, swimming, gardening, collecting lighthouses and playing ball with her dog, Sheba.  She is survived by her husband - Jeffrey L. Smith, parents - Roger Ransom of Leesburg, Indiana and Judith (McBride) Dietsch of Edgerton, Ohio.  1 son - Anthony A. Smith of Wolcottville.  1 daughter - Jessica J. Smith of Wolcottville, Indiana.  2 brothers - Roger McBride of St. Joe, Indiana and Lamar Dietsch of Hicksville, Ohio.  2 sisters - Brenda Patton of Hamilton, Indiana and Kim Houltan of Butler, Indiana.  She was preceeded in death by her grandparents - Daniel and Alma Ransom and Ray and Esther McBride.  Funeral services will be held at the LaGrange First Church of God on Thursday July 2, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. with the Pastor Brad Cook and Pastor Nancy Warren officiating.  Visitation will be held on Wednesday July 1, 2009 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Carney-Frost Funeral Home, LaGrange, Indiana.  Burial will be in Wolcottville Cemetery, Wolcottville, Indiana.  Carney-Frost Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
