Spencer D. Kohlheim

Spencer D. Kohlheim, age 38, of 302 N. Canal St., LaGrange, Indiana died Friday December 19, 2008 at 11:46 a.m. at his residence.  He was born on May 23, 1970 in LaGrange, Indiana to Harold (Harry) Jr & Maureen (Giles) Kohlheim.  Spencer was a 1989 graduate of Prarie Heights High School.  Following his graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army where he was currently ranked as a Sergeant First Class.  While in the Military, Spencer had received his Associates Degree from Vincennes University and has served 7 tours of duty – 3 in Iraq, 1 in Kabul Afghanistan, 1 in Bosnia, 1 in Panama and 1 in Guantomino Bay Cuba.  He has received 2 Purple Hearts, 2 Meritorious service medals, 4 Army Commendation Medals, 3 Army Achievement Medals, Army Good Conduct Medal, 5 Army Reserve Component Achievement Medals, 2 National Defense Service Medal Awards, Armed Forces Expedition Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal with 3 bronze stars, Global war on Terrorism Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, 2 Armed Forces Reserve Medal with Bronze hour glass and “M” devise Awards, 3 Non Commissioned Officer Development Ribbon Awards, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, NATO Medal, Kuwait Liberation Medal (Government of Saudi Arabia), Kuwait Liberation Medal (Government of Kuwait), NATO Defense Service Ribbon, Joint Meritorious Unit Award, 2 Indiana OCONUS Ribbon Awards, 2 Indiana Overseas Ribbon Awards, Indiana Long Service Ribbon, Georgia Olympics Ribbon, Indiana Emergency Service Ribbon, Army Legal Badge, Indiana Volunteer Emblem, M-4 expert (7-07), 9mm Expert (7-07) and the Combat Infantryman Badge.  He was a 12 year member of the American Legion Post #215 in LaGrange, IN.  He is survived by his parents, grandparents - Jim & Mary Alice Giles of Dowagiac, Michigan and Mickey Kohlheim of LaGrange, Indiana.  1 daughter - Samantha Kohlheim of LaGrange, Indiana.  3 sons - Tristin Kohlheim, Keegan Kohlheim and Aiden Kohlheim, all of LaGrange, Indiana.  1 brother - Ryan Kohlheim of LaGrange, Indiana.  2 sisters - Michaela & Derrick White of Fayetteville, North Carolina and Brooklyn Kohlheim of Fort Myers, Florida.  He was preceded in death by a grandfather - Harold Kohlheim Sr.  Visitation will be Monday December 22, 2008 from 4-8 p.m. at the LaGrange Baptist Church in LaGrange, Indiana.  The funeral service be Tuesday December 23, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at the church with the Chaplain George Douglas and Pastor Jeff Farnham officiating.  Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, LaGrange, Indiana with Military Rites by the American Legion Post # 215.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Kohlheim Children's Trust Fund at Farmers State Bank.
