L. Virginia (Atz) Carr, 96, left this world on July 19, 2019. The youngest of five children, born to J. Edward and Annette Crowder Atz on May 28, 1923 in Milltown, Indiana. She married Aden B. “Jack” Carr on November 28, 1959.
She was a lifelong member of the Milltown United Methodist Church and organist/pianist for over 50 years. She began working for her uncle while still in school at Atz’ Blue Mound Hatchery, at the Speed Quarry as the Superintendent’s secretary, then during WWII at the Quarter Master as a tent inspector, she ended her career as a secretary, when she retired from the Louisville District of the Corps of Engineers with 25 years of Civil Service, and a homemaker.
She was a Kentucky Colonel, Milltown PTA past president and member, and a past Matron and member of the Order of Eastern Star for 75 years.
She was an avid traveler and visited every state, but Hawii. She also traveled to Canada on a few occasions. She enjoyed traveling with Toby Tours as a group leader, as well as, planning family vacations all over the United States.
She was preceded in death by her parents, J. Edward and Annette Crowder Atz; her husband, Aden B. “Jack” Carr; sister, Willa Mae Harmon (Kermit); brothers, James (Illene), Karl (Margaret), and Franklin Atz ; a son-in-law, M. Joseph Chang; and a grandson, Patrick A. Fowler, Jr.
She leaves behind four daughters: Barbara Chang, Jane Ann Carr, Jeanette Peters (Len), Judy Fowler (Patrick); grandchildren: Carla Chang Sandoval (Aric), Anne Chang Bessman (Matt), Derek Fowler (Maggie), Nicolas Peters, Danyelle Fowler Heller (Jim), Rachel Peters Hubler (Matt), Dalton and Bailey Fowler; great-grandchildren: Sofia Sandoval, Braden, Mason, and Cora Heller, and Daxx Fowler; a brother-in-law, Charles Eugene Carr (Carol) and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be on Monday, July 22, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. at the Marengo United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in the Milltown Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Sunday, July 21, 2019 and after 2:00 p.m. until time of the funeral service at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, all at the church.
Pastor Lary Cropper will officiate the service.
