Shannon Lorene (Carty) Sowders, 52, of Borden, Indiana, passed away, surrounded by her family and friends, at her home on Sunday, January 6, 2019.  She was born on September 24, 1966 in Salem, Indiana to Mary E. (Huffines) Carty and the late Jerry Carty.

 

She served many years in the restaurant business, until she fulfilled her dream of owning and operating Borden’s Buckboard Diner, along with her longtime boyfriend, Tim Thompson.

 

She was preceded in death by her father:  Jerry Carty; step-father:  Arvil Miller; maternal grandparents:  Earcell and Sarah Huffines; paternal grandparents:  Ben and Pearl Walters, and her niece, Bailey Carty.

 

She is survived by her longtime boyfriend, Tim Thompson of Palmyra, Indiana; mother, Mary E. Carty of Salem, Indiana; son, Ricky Wells (Mollie) of Bedford, Indiana; daughters, Jackie Moss (Matt) of Borden, Indiana and Abbi Ehringer (William) of Paoli, Indiana; brothers, Ben Carty of Salem, Indiana and B. Jay Carty (Heather) of Corydon, Indiana; a sister, Pearl Richert (Scott) of Lanesville, Indiana; grandchildren:  Shalee and Clayton Moss, Adam and Waylon Wells.

 

Memorial services will be on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at 12:00 noon with a visitation from 10:00 am until time of the service at the Mill Creek Baptist Church, 4241 W. State Road 56, Salem, Indiana  47167.  

 

Bro. Bill McCrary will officiate the service.

 

Cremation was chosen following Shannon’s wishes.

 

Memorial contributions can by made, In lieu of flowers to the Bailey Carty Charity Foundation, 1086 Copperfield Drive, Georgetown, Indiana  47122 and/or to the Olcott Center, 619 West 1st Street, Bloomington, Indiana  47403.

 

Brown Funeral Home in Milltown, Indiana is entrusted with the arrangements.
