Harry "Skip" Brown, 72, of Jefferson City passed away August 22nd at Capital Regional Medical Center. He was born in Kimball, WV, the son of Harry and Blanch (Shook) Brown. He attended school and college in southern Indiana, and graduated from Milltown (Indiana) High School in 1962 then later the Kentucky School of Mortuary Science in 1971. He served in the US Navy from 1964-1967 as a surgical technician. He worked for the Floyd County Sheriff’s Department in southern Indiana, and was the Chief Deputy Corner of Floyd County prior to moving to Missouri. Skip moved to Jefferson City in 1975.
He worked for the Clark Grave Vault Company, Callaway County Sheriff’s Department, Holts Summit Police Department, and Jefferson City Police Department. He retired from the JCPD in September of 1999.
Skip was a member of the Elks Club, Eagles Club, American Legion, and the Fraternal Order of Police.
He is survived by his two sons; Eric Brown married to Carla Brown of Jefferson City, Missouri and Scott Brown of Clarksville, Indiana. His five grandchildren include Alex, Clarissa and Theo Brown of Jefferson City, Missouri and Greg and Matthew Brown of Clarksville, Indiana. His ex-wives include Susan Brown of New Albany, Indiana and Sandra "Sammie" Viessman of Jefferson City, Missouri and her son, Scottie Schmitz, his two children and two grandchildren. In addition, his brother, Jim, and wife Judy of Marengo, Indiana, and his dear friend and camping companion, Pat Weber-Smith of Eugene, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Blanch Brown.
Friends will be received from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, August 24, 2017, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be follow at 7:00 p.m. at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home with Danny Goodman officiating. A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at Batman Ridge Cemetery in Milltown, IN. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Elks Lodge #513 in Jefferson City.
