Rollin Adair Wright, affectionately known as Doc, passed away on August 24, 2016 in Fresno, California.  He was born on April 15, 1931 in Sulphur, Indiana to his parents, Samuel D. and Grace Shrout Wright.  He was preceded in death by his sister, Mildred Hawkins and brother, Versel Wright.  He is survived by his daughters, Trish and Penni.  He has left behind a multitude of friends and family in both places.

Doc grew up in Sulphur, Indiana, graduating high school and enlisting in the Navy as an airman in 1949.  He served in Fighter Squadron 193/Air Group 19 on the Uss Princeton in the Korean War.  Even after leaving the Navy, Doc maintained ties to the military, first in the U.S. Army Reserves (sergeant), then the California National Guard (Chief Warrant Officer), and finally in the California State Military Reserve (major), for a total of 29 years of military affiliation.  Doc joined the California Highway Patrol in 1960, served all over the state, and was even part of a contingent of CHP personnel sent to American Samoa, to assist with building a traffic safety program there.  Doc finished out his career with the CHP in 1990 as a Lieutenant, assigned to the Mariposa Area CHP office as its Commander.

Even after retiring, Doc remained dedicated to the CHP; it was his life’s work.  Doc’s other passions included riding his motorcycle and traveling.  He was always on the road to somewhere.  Now he’ll be able to travel without limitations.

He will always be in our hearts and in our minds.  A celebration of Life service will be on Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at 1:00 pm at the Brown Funeral Home in Milltown, IN.

As a shipmate of the USS Princeton Doc became a great friend although we usually met

every other year at the reunions. He was the epitome of friendship and will be sorely

missed by us, shipmates, and I'm sure there are hundreds of others as well. We can

easily picture him greeting old friends in Heaven and looking forward to seeing him again.
