About Us

In 1935, the Clay McCrackin Funeral Home, named after its owners, was opened on Marion Street in Pontotoc, MS. In November 2015, Lee and Buster Tutor, lifelong residents of Pontotoc County, purchased the funeral home and cemetery property. Now known as, Baldwin Memorial Funeral Home, the funeral is a Pontotoc family owned and operated business. We are dedicated to serve the families, and their deceased loved ones, with the utmost respect and compassion.

In 1950, the Methodist parsonage located at 96 South Main Street was purchased by Mr. Clay and remodeling began to transform the large two-story building into the funeral home where it stands today. In 1952, Malvin Baldwin, Sr. and Malvin Baldwin, Jr. purchased the business from Mr. Clay and changed the name to Baldwin Funeral Home. In the early to mid 1900s the funeral home operated an ambulatory service for Pontotoc County and in 1966 a large brick chapel was added and new, modern equipment was purchased to enhance the quality of service provided to friends and family through out the surrounding Pontotoc area.

Malvin Baldwin, Sr. died in 1968 leaving the business to be owned and operated by his widow and Mr. and Mrs. Malvin Baldwin Jr. (Frances Conlee). David Baldwin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Malvin Baldwin, Jr., later joined them in the family business.

Property east of the funeral home was later purchased making way for more convenient parking and a warehouse.

In 1981, after the death of his mother, Malvin Baldwin, Jr. acquired her share of the family business and in 1985 added four state rooms. Mr. and Mrs. Malvin Baldwin, Jr. retired in 1988, leaving their son, David as sole proprietor of the long-time family business.

Land consisting of 28 acres located on Highway 15 North in Pontotoc was purchased in 1989 for the purpose of developing a perpetual care cemetery and building a new funeral home.

In May 1998 Frances Conlee Baldwin passed away after 46 years of service in the funeral home. In August 1999, Malvin Baldwin, Jr. passed away leaving a legacy of valued service and true friendships of those he served for more than 60 years.

In July 2006 Mr. H. Benard, Jr. of Kosciusko, MS and his son, Mr. Harold B. Nowell, III of Louisville, MS purchased the funeral home and cemetery property from David Baldwin. Immediately, renovations began to improve and update the appearance of the funeral home. The name changed to Baldwin-Nowell Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens and continues to be a family owned business operated by local professionals of Pontotoc and surrounding communities who desire to serve with compassion and respect for the family and the utmost dignity for the deceased.
