It is with heartfelt sympathy, we announce the passing of Mr. Willie John Smith, Sr. of Gadsden, AL, who transitioned on Saturday, September 11, 2021, at the age of 80.  We ask that you please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Mr. Willie John Smith, Sr. was born on July 31, 1941, to George Lee Smith and Johnnie B. Cooper in Beatrice, Monroe County, Alabama.

Willie accepted Christ at an early age.  Willie later united with New Covenant Church under the leadership of Pastor Willie J. Smith, Jr.

Willie is preceded in death by his parents, George Lee Smith Jr. and Johnnie B. Cooper; siblings, Velmira Booker, Leona Neely, Jimmy L. Smith, Eugene Smith, and Elmira Smith Payne.

Those left to cherish his memories are his wife, Roslyn Smith; children, Willie J. (Teresa) Smith, Jr., Tony (Rolanda) Smith, Willis (Toi) Leonard, Sr., Casundra Smith, Sylvia (Bruce) Howard, Marcus (Shakira) Leonard, Alma Coleman, Eric Smith, Sr.; stepchildren, Broderick (Tangie) Marshall and Krisshana Marshall; 31 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren; siblings, Mrs. Georgia Mann, Mrs. Thelma Smith Walker, Mrs. Lillie B. (John) Booker, Ms. Annie L. Smith, Mr. George Smith, Jr., and Mr. Eldred W. Smith, and a host of relatives and friends.
