Annie Ruth Scott Buggs was born on March 11, 1934, in Inverness, Bullock County, Alabama to the union of  the late Joe Nathan and Johnnie Mae Scott.

Her formal education was received in the city of her birth. She accepted Christ at an early age and united with Sweet Home United Methodist Church upon moving to Gadsden, Alabama.

Mrs. Buggs was very much involved in her community and her church. She was a faithful member of the PTA while her children and grandchildren were in school. She was a volunteer/board member of Manna Meals, Silver Sneakers Aerobics Club, YMCA Water Aerobics, United Methodist Women, Senior Choir, Communion Stewards, Nursery Worker and Custodian.

On Monday, May 27, 2019, Annie Ruth Buggs traded mortal for immortality, as she rested in the arms of her Lord and saviour Jesus Christ. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lonnie Buggs; son, Anthony Buggs; grandson, Frank Lee, Jr.; siblings, Jennie Scott, Mary Ballard, Joe Scott, Jr., Simon Scott, Henry Scott, and Nathaniel Scott.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories her children, Gwendolyn (Valerie) Alford, Leslie Fern, Andrea, (Jackie) Granger, Sylvester (Dollisa) Green, Alycia Lee, Allen Buggs, Carla Buggs, Angela (Gregory) Leach, Tracie (Melvin) Guyton, Latoyia Buggs, Mariah Buggs; 31 grandchildren; 41 great grandchildren; special niece/daughter, Charlotte Buggs Holley; sisters, Nommie (John) Dillingham, Cleveland, OH, Joenetta Scott, Cincinnati, OH; sister-in-law, Maxine Davenport, Gadsden, AL; brothers, James Scott, Cincinnati, OH, Albert Felton, San Antonio, TX; special friends, Levy Ansley, Mildred Adams, Marbetta Ethridge, Lorraine Strong, Mary Alford, Charles Bradford; a host of other relatives and dear friends.


Celebration of Life will be 1 p.m. Saturday, June 1, 2019 at Tabernacle Church, Pastor Tommy Marshall, Pastor.  Rev. Michael Robertson, officiating. Interment will follow at Lincoln Hill Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 6p.m to 8 p.m, Friday, May 31, 2019, at Sweet Home United Methodist Church, Gadsden, AL.

We will Sweet Home's mom, Mrs. Annie Ruth...she was our generational family who brought up children/grands in a Christian manner. Hug Lonnie for us! We'll see both of you one day. Gwen and all, you have an outstanding legacy to bank on and pass HER teachings on for future generations!!!

My deepest condolences to the family. Mrs. Buggs was a very nice lady. I remember she always had a smile and encouraging words for the kids growing up at Sweet Home UMC.
